- Derek is a Manager with Frank, Rimerman’s Consulting Group where he specializes in business valuations for tax, financial and strategic purposes. He also assists clients in building their financial models, preparing their companies for a sale and providing consulting/advisory services. Derek has over 10 years of professional experience in investment banking, mergers and acquisitions and fundamental business valuation. His primary industry focus is on technology, life sciences and wineries.
Prior to joining Frank, Rimerman + Co LLP, Derek was a Director in the Corporate Development Group at Symantec Corporation, a publicly-traded security and storage software company. There he worked closely with the CEO and CFO to acquire key companies and assets, create joint ventures, invest in small startups and help formulate M&A strategy. His primary responsibilities included deal sourcing, valuation, due diligence, deal structuring, execution and integration. Prior to Symantec, he was an investment banker at UBS and Credit Suisse First Boston in their technology groups. Derek has been involved in over 25 completed equity, debt and M&A transactions totaling over $14 billion in transaction value.
Derek graduated with Honors from the University of California at Santa Cruz and holds a Series 79 license from FINRA for Investment Banking services. He is an Accredited Member of the American Society of Appraisers in Business Valuation. Derek is also the Owner of a virtual winery in Napa called Three Rights Left. Derek serves on the Board of Directors of Pets Unlimited and on the Strategic Planning Committee of the National Kidney Foundation, both in San Francisco.
